OOTD - reverse copy cat

Remember this OOTD post? Well I basically just copied it, but used the pants from the suit instead of the jacket. I love having a full suit because there are so many ways you can mix and match the pieces.

Do you guys have any suit remixes on your blog? I would love it if you could link me to them in the comment section!

Sweater? Madewell. Lace shell? Banana Republic. Necklace? Ann Taylor.
Watch? Michael Kors. Pants? Banana Republic. Shoes? Target.

frenchie friday...on tuesday!

Sorry I'm late on this post! This past Friday I took Reggie to his last vet appointment so he is now chipped and has all his shots. It came at a good time too because I just found a Frenchie Meetup group in San Francisco and they had a meetup on Sunday.

There were probably over 20 Frenchies at this group and it was so funny to see all of the dogs playing together. Reggie was really shy most of the time and didn't know how to go play with the other dogs. It made me realize how I need to start socializing him more because I want him to have fun playing with other dogs and not just Pig.

Do you guys have any tips on  how to socialize dogs?

Pig was having a great time and got a little too excited while playing :)

OOTD - dots at the office

Sweater? Old Navy. Chambray and pants? Banana Republic. Shoes? Brian Atwood
Necklace? Ann Taylor. Dog in the background? Pig!

Dots at the office? Don't mind if I do! Hope you're all having a nice week so far :)

I won, let's get some shoes!

Ever since I was in college I have always tried my best to live within my means, and not spend too much on things like food or clothes. The problem is, this is really really hard for me. I love food and clothes and on top of that I am an emotional shopper/eater so sometimes I completely let myself go.

One solution to overspending on clothes and food is to sign up for every giveaway I hear of. I can't even tell you how many things I have won over the years. Most of the prizes are small like a free Subway sandwich, but occasionally I will win something awesome- like a gift card to a high end shoe store in San Francisco, which is what I won last month!

I've been in dire need of cute flats for work but have really been trying to stick to my budget to reach my financial goals for 2013. However this weekend, I bought two pairs of shoes and only spent $37.00!

First, I went to Target with the BF and saw these shoes. I liked them in blue the best but they only had my size in the green and since emerald is the color of 2013 I figured they would be a good choice. While I was checking out, I noticed they were on clearance for $7. It was fate!

Next, I used the gift card that I won to buy a pair of Brian Atwood flats that were originally $250 but I only had to pay $30 because they were on sale and I used my gift card. Needless to say, I was so excited to have two new pairs of cute flats and only spend about 40 dollars.

Have you ever won something?

frenchie friday

Happy Friday everyone! This week flew by which is awesome because last week was the worst and decided to last forrrreverrrr. To keep this week going on a good note I thought I would go back to the start of my frenchie obsession and show you some pictures of my boyfriends dog, Pig. Pig is pretty much the love of my life and the reason I have my little pup Reggie - Pig's the dad. Hope you enjoy!

Sweet little Pig :)
Pig literally sleeps all day so most of my pictures are like this
He used to get sad and miss my BF when I would babysit. Treats fixed that!
He has no concept of personal space
This is how he cools off
My brother slept on my floor and this is how Pig woke him up.
The first picture I have of Mr. Pig
Real quick, I know I seem like a crazy dog person - especially since this isn't even my dog - and you're right, I totally am. But my boyfriend knows and I think he secretly likes it since he loves his little dog too. Have a nice weekend!

blue suede shoes...?

I'm having a bit of a girl moment over here tonight. You see, I have a gift card to Madewell and was thinking of buying something I wouldn't normally pick for myself. I am pretty good on clothes at the moment, meaning I don't need anything, but I am running low on shoes since all of mine have decided to fall apart at the same time. Hooray!

Anyway, I came across these shoes and I'm torn because I can't tell if they are amazing and they will go with everything in my wardrobe, or if they are going to be that shoe that sounds like a good idea but I never actually wear them no matter how hard I try. Oh and by the way, they are final sale.

This is where you come in blogging friends!

why buy the cow?

For those of you who don't follow me on Twitter, you should start :) And for those of you who do, you know that I sometimes post content about women's rights. I usually don't talk it on other social platforms but since I am changing the focus of my blog to be more about my everyday life, I'm going to start posting a few of my thoughts here.

I wrote a post the other day talking about how people keep asking me if my current boyfriend and I are going to get engaged soon. One of my family members who asked this question continued to press me on the issue even after I told him I didn't know. Feeling uncomfortable by his comments about how I am getting older and need to start thinking seriously about marriage, I replied by saying that people get married and settle down at a later age in San Francisco (or any larger city for that matter) and that most of my friends aren't even in relationships at this time.

His response? "Kate, this is going to sound harsh, but the reason guys aren't settling down with you and your friends is because you're giving away the milk for free."

I would love to tell you that I had some amazing and pithy response to this horrifying statement, but I didn't. I was too shocked. I'm still shocked, and honestly really saddened that people in the world still feel this way. Why are women continuing to be condemned for things like having sex before marriage?

I agree with Lindsey from Jezebel who says, "The idea that the onus is on women to "preserve" their chastity... instead of on men...is a fundamental imbalance in our society that creates tangible problems for women every day. And it's coupled with the idea that women who DO "give up" their lady-flowers (and maybe even enjoy it) are somehow tainted and less valuable."

We need to stop allowing people to make sex negative comments about women. I should have said something to my family member and told him he was wrong instead of waiting a month and then writing about it in my blog. But I didn't. Next time though, I won't stay silent. The slut shaming needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.

I am 26 years old and I'm not married. The fact that I have chosen to "give away the milk for free" is not the reason I'm still single and does not make me less valuable or desirable for marriage. The reason I'm still single is because I have not wanted marriage at this point in my life. Yes, I would very much like to be married someday, but I hardly think that my age should be the main requirement for finding a lifelong partner.

Has anyone ever said something like this to you? If so, how did you react?

OOTD - all dressed up and no where to go

birthday dress
Banana Republic Blazer, Madewell Dress, Forever 21 Belt, Uniqlo Tights, Ninewest Shoes, Kate Spade Earrings, EmersonMade Necklace, Michael Kors Bag

I normally have meetings for work on Mondays so I decided to dress up since this was the first Monday everyone was back after the holidays. However, all of my meetings were canceled and so were my plans for tonight. I know it's silly but I hate wasting a good outfit on a day like today!
